The Dawn Wall at BAF for Best of The Fest
21st Nov 2018
INTERNATIONALLY acclaimed documentary The Dawn Wall will be shown at the final Buxton Adventure Festival event of 2018 – on Tuesday, 11th December.
The feature length film follows American rock climbers Tommy Caldwell and Kevin Jorgeson as they attempt to scale a seemingly impossible 3,000ft rock face in Yosemite National Park, California.
The adventure ignited a media frenzy, as the pair spent weeks living on the sheer vertical cliff in their attempt to free the new route, culminating in a congratulatory call from then President Barack Obama after reaching the summit.
The Dawn Wall has since been screened to hundreds of thousands of viewers worldwide and picked up Best Climbing Film awards at both the Banff Mountain Film Festival and Kendal Mountain Festival.
The event will also see screenings of two other adventure films, My Big White Thighs & Me and The Frozen North, both multiple international film festival award winners.
My Big White Thighs & Me documents Hannah Maia’s year of wild swimming, in a story about womanhood, miscarriage, healing, loving your own skin and braving the elements throughout the seasons to swim in wild places.
The Frozen North charts Ben Page’s solo journey by bike into the Canadian arctic to complete his journey up the American continent as part of a worldwide cycling adventure. The short film shows his wonder, terror and frustration riding through the frozen emptiness.
Matt Heason, Buxton Adventure Festival Director, said: “For the final BAF of the year, we wanted a Best of The Fest event, showing amazing adventure films that capture the heart of everything the festival is about.
“We have three remarkable films lined up, covering cutting edge climbing, freezing wild swimming and epic adventure cycling. All three films weave the adrenaline inducing escapades expertly around the adventurers’ personal stories of loss, adversity, soul searching and ultimately triumph.
“If you’re looking for inspiration on a cold, dark December evening, these films will give you all the motivation you need.”
The event takes place at 7:30pm on Tuesday, 11th December 2018, at the Buxton Opera House, Water Street, Buxton. Book your tickets online or call the Box Office on 01298 72190.
The Buxton Adventure Festival in association with Exodus Travels is also supported by Buxton Opera House, Buxton Advertiser, The Old Hall Hotel and Heason Events.
